With the holiday season upon us, it's always fun to see what people will wear to Christmas parties.  Inevitably, the timid girl from the office will get a little over-enthusiastic at the punch bowl and have people asking, "Do you see what I see?", the keep-to-himself neighbour will become the life of the party and someone will wear something too short, too tight or far too sequined.  Christmas is one time of year where excess is forgiven and it's the perfect time to step out of your neatly wrapped box and take some risks.  

That said, here are a few RLR do's and don'ts for party season:  

DO wear red lips.  A lot of men get freaked out by them but as long as you colour within the lines, you'll be festive, not freaky.  Plus, unless you want to be like Jessica Simpson, you should dress for yourself, not for men. 

DO invest in some gilt-y pleasures.  Gold accents, especially when paired with black, add an instant hint of holiday glint to make your outfit shine, shine, shine.

DO try an unusual topper over your party frock.  I love the idea of wearing a soft, cozy grandpa cardigan over your dress or a leather bomber to add some edge.

DO try patterned tights.  They can add vavavoom curves to spindly legs and instantly spice up a ho-hum LBD.

DO wear a little red dress, even if you're not a 'red' person.  The LRD is hotter than ever right now and is about as festive as you can get. 

DON'T wear pantyhose.  It's old-fashioned and fussy and it's not as though that 1/100 mm of fabric will do much to shield you from the storm.  Either self-tan and bare 'em or wear black (opaque, patterned or sheer) tights.  Girls with perfect pegs can wear white tights but the rest of us should steer clear.

DON'T forget to invite me to your parties.  I'm so much fun. Hee.
