The Right Stuff

When I was little, my sister and I would race down the stairs each Christmas morning and making a beeline for the fireplace. Our stockings, which had hung limp and lifeless for weeks, were suddenly busting at the seams with soon-to-be-discovered treats from Santa. Inevitably, there would be a Toblerone bar and a clementine inside, and the rest of the stuff changed from year to year; I remember a cool spinning light-up wand one year, fruity lipglosses the next, sometimes a great book or CD, and other times a headband or bracelet. No matter what, the contents of our handmade felt stockings were pretty, girly and always fun.

It's funny how some things never change; Sure, I love the occasional over-the-top gift as much as the next person, but for me, I nearly always get more joy from fun little finds than anything else. And, I'm always relieved when Santa remembers to put that Toblerone bar in my stocking.
