Stunna Shades On

They say it's worth it.  They say that a good pair will change you.  But $400, $500, even $600 on plastic that I will at some point sit on, scratch or otherwise maim seems irresponsible.

I have a $300 credit at NET-A-PORTER. Is now the time? Am I old enough to handle them? Fashion blogger self says NO, this is something you MUST try on.  It's so obvious.  Dreamy self says, 'Goooo, get theeemmm. The Alex Wang ones. Those are pretty. You will liiiike them. Nooo, you will love themm!"

Then again, I am wearing an eye patch today thanks to ingrown eyelash surgery (yes, this actually happens) Perhaps this is impairing my judgment...

(ps - Pirate jokes appreciated. The worst is pity. Yargh)

Wander Lusting

So, it seems counterintuitive to be posting pics of crystal clear waters and pretty bathers in minus 20 weather, yet when I look at all that snow, all I want to do is leave it behind.  I'd board my plane, perfectly packed luggage in tow and take off for somewhere steamy.  I imagine spending my days drinking sparkly drinks, and my nights dining under the estrellas, and in all of my imaginary scenes, I'm wearing a rocking wardrobe.  Day #1 - black bather, floppy sunhat, cute sandals and Persol shades as I read something I've been wanting to delve into like Dickens (or the latest issue of Us Weekly..let's be honest...) Day #2, as vacation mode fully sets in, it's party time with my neon bikini and mad stack of bracelets, ready to hit my noon samba class if I can wake up in time.  The week goes on with a parade of dreamy outfits that you can really only get away with on vacation.  And of course, I have the perfect imaginary beach body to match.

Whether you have a trip planned or just want to dream a little, I have 6 perfect poolside looks ready for your weeklong vacay.  I find it helps get me through the extra cold days...

Nella Bella Giveaway

I'm always on the lookout for great Canadian brands, so when Nella Bella got in touch and asked me to test drive one of their clutches, I was totally game.  The brand's all about sleek, on-trend designs with a decidedly urban flair.  And while the bags look leather-like luxe, the entire line is 100% vegan, making them not only eco-friendly but blissfully affordable. This clutch is capital O Oversized, with a detachable chain strap and smart interior pockets.  But the best part? The colour - a rich, ruby red.  Love!

Now here's the good news: We're giving away this Nella Bella Ivy Clutch.  Simply leave a comment below telling us your fave Nella Bella handbag to win.  Contest closes 5 pm tomorrow (Friday). We'll announce the winner Monday morning!  Bonne chance

xx

I Like to Move It, Move It

Jane Fonda, workout queen of the big, bad '80s - photo nearlyvintage.tumblr.com

Originally posted in The CLOSET

It wasn't all that long ago that spandex was invented.  The revolutionary fiber of the 60s, spandex moved with our bodies, giving us the freedom to stretch, lunge and squat like never before. But with freedom comes responsibility, and that's where the 80's really crossed the line. Think neon bike shorts, legwarmers, MC Hammer gym rat pants, and stretchy headbands to keep crimped hair at bay while we sweated to the oldies. And possibly (no, definitely) worst of all, the THONG BODYSUIT worn over the bike short.  Yup.  I remember my mom faithfully going to Jazzercise while I daydreamed about being a 'Get in Shape Girl', donning my super cool ankle weights and wrist warmers while I perfected my running man.  Good times.

Luckily, workout wear has gotten a lot prettier and instead of hindering our ability to get in shape, is actually designed to help us get physical without looking ridiculous (case in point: the thong bodysuit).  The new crop of activewear is seamless, stretchy and breathable.   The sports bras not only support us (literally) while we run but instead of feeling like a compression boob-bandage, actually flatter our feminine physique. And the shoes? Well, there are millions of cool pairs for every type of athlete, whether you're a low-impact kinda lady or someone who Jillian Michaels' her way through every hardcore drill.  You go girl!  Don't hurt me.

I can't help you hit your goals (I'm too busy trying to reach my own) but these fitness finds just might give you that extra boost you need to hit the treadmill.  (And if the gym just isn't your thing, I'm all over the Zumba and Tracy Anderson DVD's. Love!)

Good luck, ladies! Looking good, as they say, is half the battle x

ps - if you have 7 minutes, this video is highly entertaining. and no, it's not an SNL skit. Scroll to the bottom for more.  I think I just lost 5 lbs from laughing so hard

Good Stuff: GAP Nabs INTERMIX

Photo: INTERMIX

We love a good takeover, especially when it involves designer labels.  GAP Inc. just announced it has scooped up INTERMIX, a multi-brand luxury boutique based in NYC, for $130 million (aka. drop in the bucket)

INTERMIX - which has 32 U.S stores, 1 Toronto boutique, and an extensive e-commerce site - offers top luxury labels like Jimmy ChooChloeBottega VenetaValentino and Stella McCartney. Yum. Gap plans to expand INTERMIX’s network of stores, as well as improve and expand its e-commerce site - such great news for online shoppers like me.

“We’re thrilled to have found a partner that has the global scale and infrastructure required to support our vision for growth,” said Khajak Keledjian, co-founder of INTERMIX. “Gap Inc. shares many of our entrepreneurial roots, passion for innovation and customer experience. Together, we’ll continue to shape the future of retail by offering the most exciting fashion trends with the finest designers in the world.”

The acquisition will see the brand become part of Gap's impressive line-up of retailers, which already includes Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime and Athleta.  Does this mean INTERMIX will start having Friends & Family sales, too?  A girl can dream...
