Cute Kicks: Keds for Kate Spade

Maybe it's the fact that I just spent 4 days packing, lifting, cleaning, and unpacking, but the new Keds for Kate Spade Collection coming to Town Shoes this spring looks awfully tempting. At only $89.95 a pair, they're cute and comfy and perfect for running to grab a coffee, taking the dog for a walk or just for improving the view when you finally get to put your feet up.

But for tonight, I'm about to strap on my least practical shoes for a night at World Mastercard Fashion Week in Toronto. I've missed so many shows already because of the move but could absolutely not miss tonight - Pink Tartan, Joe Fresh and Mackage plus some hot ticket after-parties are on tonight's agenda. And as a Virtual Front Row Blogger for Joe Fresh, I'll have exclusive pics and backstage access to the Fall '14 show so check back soon for all the fresh goods and follow me on Twitter tonight for live updates.

Okay, off to caffeinate. Hmmm...wonder where I can find a strong espresso around here?

It might be early to start planning our spring wardrobes but there were so many pretty looks at World MasterCard Fashion Week, I just couldn't help myself.  In my article for iVillage.ca this week, I've hand-picked my favourite looks from my week in Toronto and I'm pretty sure they'll make you just a little bit excited for 2014....

JOE FRESH Lightens Up for Spring '14

Joe Mimran gives a triumphant fist pump to his fans after the Joe Fresh Spring '14 show at World MasterCard Fashion Week. All photos by George Pimentel Photography.

As the lights dimmed at World MasterCard Fashion Week on Wed night, a collective hush fell over the crowd. We'd placed bets in the media lounge about how Joe Fresh would handle Spring '14 - some expecting all white, others hoping for bold brights. We all had our fingers crossed for a return of a happier, brighter JOE after his highly-debated collection for fall, all black and dark and '90s Paris edgy.  Would he bring it on?

And then it began. A parade of chic navy looks in raw silks and frayed denim started the show (said to be inspired by modern artist N. Dash). Then came the Asian-inspired reds, in that perfect shade of Lady Danger orangey-red which made the strongest impact worn head-to-toe. Next came the prints - super fun blue and white zebra stripes, watery python prints, elegant Asian florals and cool blue camo with tough-luxe detailing throughout. And a hologram mini that sparkled and shimmied its way down the runway to the beats of Britney's 'Work B**ch' made us all swoon. The whole collection felt modern and cool with just the right amount of edge, and unlike last season, the theme didn't seem the least bit forced.

Creative Director Joe Mimran said, "This season, we refined the essence of the brand. Functionality as the new chic has become the Joe Fresh guideline. The collection is sexy and cool while maintaining a classic refined look."

As LOULOU Magazine's Liv Judd-Soye, and The Style House fashion plate Afiya Francisco and I headed to the Joe Fresh after-party at Lee, we all agreed; Joe Fresh totally killed it for Spring '14. On my ever-growing shopping list: The blue silk skirt with the white tiger tee, the zebra-print midi skirt, the croco-print mini with the midnight blue sweater, the red silky pants and the liquid sparkly skinnies and blazer. Note to self: Must edit - though I'm not sure whether I should shorten my list or cull my closet to accomodate these beauties.

The Spring/Summer 2014 “Fresh off the Runway” collection will be sold exclusively at select Joe Fresh store locations, though I'm hoping the collection will follow the Fall '13 lead and go online next spring. Fingers crossed. x

While fast fashion is certainly not without its flaws, I'm heartened to see the important steps Joe Fresh has taken lately to make things right. See this article in yesterday's Globe and Mail to see how the company is responding to the Bangladesh disaster. Do you think it's enough?

Back in Black: The Joe Fresh Fall '13 Show

My mad matchy-matchiness from last night (Joe himself approved - yes!)

I'm back from World MasterCard Fashion Week and ready to sort out all of my pics from the tents but before I do, had to post photos from last night's Joe Fresh show.  For Fall '13, Joe Mimran was influenced by Paris, the Sex Pistols, and the '90s punk movement, done up almost entirely in black -  a decided departure from the happy brights so synonymous with Joe Fresh.

Though maybe not as universally likeable a collection, it was a really nice change of pace for the brand and I loved the edginess of it all. The studded pieces, the white chunky turtleneck and that liquid black blazer will all be moving into my closet come Fall.  Thoughts? Loves? Leave your comments below and let me know!

Check back soon for more Fashion Week pics from David Dixon, LINE Knitwear, Mackage (amazing show) and more, plus street style snaps I shot at the tents, and a few pics of what I wore. K, time to nap - last night's after-party completely did me in. Zzzz....

MasterCard Stylicity 2013

World MasterCard Fashion Week is in full swing and with it, a strong desire to shop.  Just me? On Thursday, Stylicity hosted an exclusive event for a select group of editors and bloggers, complete with a private streetcar (ooh la laaa) and a private tour of some of the coolest hidden gems in Toronto. We hit up GOTSTYLE Menswear, pretty Parisian Boutique Canon Blanc, the super edgy Sauvage, ultra-charming 69 Vintage, and Hammam Spa, where I could have gladly stayed all day.  We finished off our afternoon with a yummy lunch at Crush Wine Bar served up by Trista Sheen of TopChef Canada.  As someone who's currently too busy (and too out-of-town) to regularly wander Toronto's neighbourhoods, this was so much fun.

As the official retail program for World MasterCard Fashion Week, Stylicity consists of a network of local retailers, spas and restaurants in Toronto offering unique discounts and experiences to customers throughout the month, including Teatro Verde, Banana Republic, Pink Tartan and Intermix, plus online etailers like eLUXE, asos, and Revolve Clothing.

Since launching in 2011, Stylicity has grown to include partnerships with more than 150 local Toronto retailers, restaurants and online national brands, all of which are offering sweet discounts until the end of this month when you use your MasterCard. For the full list of participating retailers, check out mastercard.ca/stylicity2013

Happy shopping! x
